9783642041457 3642041450 The results of the contest were presented in a special contest session., This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing, ICIAP 2009, held in Vietri sul Mare, Italy, in September 2009.The 107 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 168 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on computer graphics and image processing, low and middle level processing, 2D and 3D segmentation, feature extraction and image analysis, object detection and recognition, video analysis and processing, pattern analysis and classification, learning, graphs and trees, applications, shape analysis, face analysis, medical imaging, and image analysis and pattern recognition., This volume contains the papers presented at the 15th International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing (ICIAP 2009), held in Vietri sul Mare, Italy, September 8 11, 2009. ICIAP 2009 was the 15th edition of a series of conferences organized every two years by the Italian groupof researchersa'liated to the International As- ciation for PatternRecognition(IAPR). The aim of these conferences is to bring together researchers working on image analysis, image processing and pattern recognitionfrom aroundthe world.Topics for ICIAP 2009 included ImageAn- ysis and Processing, Vision and Perception, Pattern Recognition, Multimodal Interaction and Multimedia Processing, and Applications. Therewere168submissions.EachsubmissionwasreviewedbythreeProgram Committee members. The committee decided to accept 107 papers, divided into 12 oral sessions (36 papers) and two poster sessions (71 papers). Theprogramincluded threeinvitedtalksbyDavidStork(RicohInnovations, USA), Bogdan Gabrys (Bournemouth University, UK) and Stan Matwin (U- versity of Ottawa, Canada). For the latter two, the talks were organized in an unusual way: the two speakers presented a talk on the same topic as seen from their di'erent point of views, with Bogdan Gabrys proposing a pattern rec- nition approach and Stan Matwin a machine learning approach. A stimulating comparison between the two approaches was made possible by the coordination and moderation by Floriana Esposito. Twotutorialswereo'ered, on 3DVideoProcessingforImmersive3DVid- conferencing (by Oliver Scheer) and on Human-Centered Vision Systems (by Hamid Aghajan and Nicu Sebe). ICIAP2009alsohostedthe'rsteditionoftheFingerprintLivenessDetection Contest (LivDet2009), organized by Fabio Roli, Stephanie Schuckers and Gian Luca Marcialis.
